Valley Girl Sprint

13 reasons I did not want to do this race:

1) Because it was too close after Ironman and I didn't feel completely recovered

2) I hadn’t been training for short distance which required a very different intensity

3) I was having anxiety and PTS (post traumatic stress) from my Ironman swim

4) The water was too warm, so there were no wetsuits allowed, which makes the swim more energy intensive
5) Liberty Lake water is not great, and full of several kinds of seaweed

6) There was pressure coming from myself to place in my age group which gives me lots of performance anxiety before the race starts

7) I have discovered that I don’t really like sprints, they are too short and too intense

8) A sprint is like a big brick interval, and no one likes intervals because they are really hard

9) I didn’t want to have to get up really early again

10) They said that you could not use an MP3 player on the run and I really dislike having to run without one

11) I have conviced myself that I am better at endurance than I am at intensity

12) There is no time in a sprint to get into a rhythm and enjoy the race

13) Every leg of the race is pretty much full out anerobic effort

13 reasons I am glad that I did:

1) I ended up having a great race

2) I was able to push my self hard on all three legs of the race

3) I enjoyed lots of cheering from friends an family
4) I acquired my 1st age group win-placing 1st in age 45-49
5) I passed a lot of people on the bike and I only got passed by 1 person
6) I chose on my own accord to line up on the front line of the swim

7) I did have alot of fun seeing and cheering for my teammates on the race course

8) I enjoyed some amazing pre-race camaraderie with my Tri Fusion Sisters

9) I passed several people on the run, and did not get passed by anyone in my age group

10) There is something special about competing in an "all women" race

11) I was able to sneak my ipod shuffle and enjoyed some good tunes on the run

12) We had to stay for the awards ceremony….again, several of my teammates won age group placement awards

13) We set up our Tri Fusion canopy and banners and had some great food and fellowship in the park after the race

Well, I'm glad that you did Valley Girl too. It was definitely not my "A" race but it is definitely a memory.

Thank you for inspiring me to do my best.

I love how much you didn't want to do this race and the fact that you ended up placing first in your age group! You rock and, as always, are a huge inspiration!!!

Kathi- Congrats on placing first in your age group in this race! Your progress in triathlon (from fear of swimming to lining up first in the water), is nothing short of AMAZING!!! YOU ROCK!! I'm so proud of you!

And the amazing support you gave to your friend at the Wunder Girl race, by biking with her, was a real testament to who you are and your character!!

Love Linda
